Hey Friends and Family!!! I know you are thinking that it has once again been a long time since we last updated our blog. It has been a whirlwind of a couple months. I wanted to come on and update everyone on all that's going on with us!!!
E came home for 2 weeks, and to say it was a wonderful break would be an understatement. It was long overdue, and while saying goodbye was extrememly difficult, it was worth it to have our family complete for a short time. Now we'll count down the days until he is home for good!! Here are some pictures that were taken the day he came home. It was so great. I went an picked him up from the airport. We figured that would be the best option since we weren't for certain when his flight would actually get in. I knew that if he was delayed a couple hours, and he had no phone to let me know... Avery would be quite the handful. So she stayed with my mom while I went to pick him up.

These are from me picking him up. A couple of my friends went a long because they wanted to take pictures/videos for us to have and keep. I wasn't planning on having anyone go, but when they asked, I decided that would be something we will always cherish!

We then went to my mom's house and got Avery. It was a surprise for her... and she loved it. She kept saying "Dada....Dada.........Dada....Dada...." she couldn't even believe he was home. It was precious. She was right by his side the entire time he was here. Girls and their Daddies!!!

Father's Day

Since Daddy wasn't home this father's day, we wanted to send him a VERY special package!!! Avery has the most incredible Daddy she could ever ask for. She has no idea how much he loves her. He is so special to us, so we wanted to make sure he knew how much we love him... and cherish and celebrate him on days JUST for Daddys! Here are all the goodies he got from his little princess!!! (all these pictures were sent to him as well... to show how she helped or made EVERYTHING!!!

Many of you may be asking... "Who are you???" and "Have we seen you around here before??" Well, as a matter of fact you have, My name is Alex Polk... and I have a hard time remembering to come and update our family blog. I am very sorry to those who read this, and I am pretty sure I say this very time, I realize it's been a while since I have been on here. My brain is filled with all sorts of craziness lately... so for that, I appologize for being so ding dang forgetful!!!

So, lately Avery and I have been all over the place- and getting stuff done, while being torn in so many directions.

Update on our soldier:
He is doing a WONDERFUL job, and I am sure no one doubted that he would. He has been so incredibly busy lately. This past week our internet was struck by lightening. So between his internet being down, ours being down... it was a little over a week that we didn't talk. Many people don't seem to understand how hard that is sometimes. We have gotten the hang of getting our day to day stuff done without our daddy here with us... but I definitely count on those phone calls... hearing his voice, and seeing his handsome face on Skype. I know I definitely talk to him more than anyone else... as instructed by his family- They wanted him to call home first... and pass along information on how he's doing. But, I know it is always a treat to hear from his family as well... timing just tends to be off since he is going off naps- and there is no set schedule to tell people when he will be online. But generally, we talk about 5 mins a day... sometimes more... sometimes less- so we are thankful for the time he does have to call home. And I know Avery enjoys it as well! We are still not sure when he will be home for r&r. it keeps switching, so we aren't sure when Avery's birthday party/ Daddy day will be. But once we know- I will pass along information to each family to spread to anyone in the family interested in coming. I know he would love to see everyone!!!

MY school update:
Many people know that Avery was a "surprise" to our family. I had been in school a couple years and changed majors from Early childhood education to dental hygiene (mainly because my school was giving me the run around, and ruining my desire to teach. ) After finding out our little Avery was on her way, I decided to go back to education and finish up. While I was pregnant I told myself I would be going back to school right after she was born (slightly niave to the whole situation) When reality set in, Avery was born August 2... and school was supposed to start the 15th. Who was I kidding?!?! Women even get maternity leave... I would not being going straight to school... I couldn't. So Ernest and I talked, and we wanted me to be home with her for the first year of her life. Which, I enjoyed so incredibly much. I am so lucky to have an amazing husband who is such a wonderful provider to his family. Needless to say, I was all set to go back to school this past semester (January 11). Once again, Ernest and I talked... and decided that with him deploying, we didn't want to change everything in her 1 year old world... daddy leaving, and mommy going back to school, sending her to daycare all at once. SO, i talked to the teachers at school. One of them was a military brat growing up. She encouraged me as well to stay home with her another semester. We decided it was best for our family to again, wait for me to finish my degree. Keep in mind, I only have 2 semesters left. But, Avery is of course first on our list, and we felt it would be best for me to stay with her during this deployment.

We talked about me going to school this coming semester- I went to the mandatory meeting at school, Avery has started daycare... and I had my heart set on going, and finally finishing school. Avery LOVES her daycare, and so do I. My heart was comfortable with this adventure in our lives. I said big prayers... that God provide us with what He feels is best for our family. Little did I know, he had a different plan for us. Our school has a "sign up" night at 10 o'clock for the school/time you wanted classes. I needed a school close by in case of an emergency with Avery, and one close enough that I could get to on time after taking Avery to daycare. (being a solo parent isn't easy) WELL, there was a computer "glitch" and I drew the short straw. we were told we would get the school information after successfully signing up... which I did... so I printed this page as my "confirmation". I later thought it was strange that it didn't say "CONGRATULATIONS" or anything, so decided to call the school and confirm that I had signed up correctly. I WASN'T ON THEIR LIST. Out of over 200 students, 12 other students and I had this same issue. In tears (because I just knew this was what I was supposed to do at this point in my life- finish school) I talked to the teacher and she said "well, you need to sign up for another school so you are on the list, then submit a "request to change" form and wait to hear whether it was granted. I prayed hard- not that my request would be granted, but that He would make my heart at peace to whatever decision he felt was best for our family right now. After weeks of waiting... she granted me a closer elementary school, but with classes at KSU at night. Obviously daycares aren't open at night... so this wasn't possible. But, surprisingly- I was at peace with this decision. I want to finish school in May so bad... but He knows this will benefit our family. There were pros and cons to both outcomes... If I went this semester, the con was being in school 3 days a week while E comes home on R&R, being in school when he gets home in November for good. A pro was I would graduate in May. Cons for not going this semester- since I will be in elementary schools, they don't have summer classes... therefore, I won't graduate until December. Pros- more time with our soldier when he comes home both times... and more Avery time. Overall- point is, I will not be starting school until January, and while everyone seems to have their opinions, some positive, others negative- I am comfortable and excited about this plan!! Ernest knows how important it is to me to finish school, so he is being supportive, but is frustrated with all the trouble they have given me lately. He is happy with whatever my heart is happy with. It's for ME to get my degree... I want it!!! So he is being a great husband and allowing me to finish, paying for classes... sending Avery to school... but is willing to wait until the timing works best for us all!

Avery's school update!!
Avery has started "school" at Sunbrook Academy" and LOVES it!!! She has been going on Tuesdays and Wednesdays every week. Tuesdays are Water Park days. They said it usually takes kids a couple weeks to feel confident enough to run through the water park (jets that shoot up water). But of course our wild child was the first one out there!!! She is such a social butterfly... we knew she would thrive there!! Here are some pictures from her first day!!

Thinking out loud... and seeking HIM

Why is it people say you seek God at the hardest points in your life? What about those of us who already know him? If the hardest obstacles in life make you who you are in the end... why do we pray to try to prevent it? Do we search for God thinking it will purely “fix” what needs to be fixed and ultimately change the outcome of a situation... do we pray for self comfort that you did all you could... now it's up to Him? Or do we pray for answers, seeking someone who knows before it happens?? I am passionate for God, but have realized I sometimes tend to go longer than I would like without talking to him. Lately I find myself falling to my knees, or closing my eyes to seek Him and His comfort around me more than I ever have before. I believe in Him with all my heart and soul and know He reminds us every day of His power, mercy and glory. We all have our daily struggles and pains. For me, one huge daily struggle is listening to my precious daughter ask for her “Daddy” every time she gets upset or wants something… hoping he will be there to comfort her (a comfort only a Daddy can fill). For now, Mommy will have to do- and I promise to give EXTRA snuggles while I remind her how much her Daddy loves his precious “Bug”. I could not be more proud of the handsome man I married- And I hope he knows that. I can’t wait to have him home where he is supposed to be- Where he is constantly hugged and kissed by his two favorite girls. I know at a time like this I am seeking him more than I have in the past… But me seeking God isn't in desperation... mine is in clarity and comfort.

It's about time!!!

First of all, I am so sorry it has taken so long to update this blog! There are so many nights I sit down, intending to write... and then get side tracked, Ernest called, Avery wakes up, or I fall asleep- so there goes that idea! I promise to try harder to keep this up to date. I had no idea we actually had readers... but aparently we do!

So, my handsome hero is doing an amazing job! He is busy, busy... and pretty much surviving on naps- but he is doing his best, which we all know is more than you could get from so many other people. That is one of the many things I love so much about him. He is so commited to his family, the military, and everything he loves. He gives his all... and does an amazing job.

Avery and I are holding down the fort... and I have to say we are doing a great job, I think. So many days I think "how in the world am I getting all this done"... and then realize - yeah, you're getting it done! way to go!! Ernest would be proud! :) With as much as I miss him- time is going by pretty quickly. Between Avery, issues with the dogs, and taking some time to myself to go to the gym to help release stress, the days seem to come and go. When I say issues with the dogs... I mean ISSUES WITH THE DOGS!! several weeks ago, Cleo decided to dig through the trash can and find the left over rotisserie chicken we had for dinner. She ate it all. Bones included! So when I cam downstairs, saw the trash can knocked over... and the chicken MISSING, I proceeded to search the house for the left over chicken bones. NOTHING WAS EVER FOUND. And where might they have been?? HER STOMACH!!! So after researching online (which any of you who know me... I do that more than I should) and everyone said "oh yeah, she'll be fine..." and "she will die!!" Needless to say, she started throwing up bones the following day, and had diarrhea. A VERY high vet bill later- she had to have surgery to get the bones in her stomach and intestines removed!! They were cutting her insides to pieces, and blocking her intestines. NOT FUN!!! She is 100% better now.

I am hoping to not take so long to post an update in the future! I know this is just NOT ACCEPTABLE :) But I promise I am staying so busy!! Thanks again for all the love and support!!!

Saying goodbye to Daddy

This was one of the most difficult days we have had as a family. I never thought saying goodbye to someone could be so hard. We will see him soon... I tell myself that every day. I love him with my entire heart. He and Avery are my world, yet saying "see you later" when you know that will be about 10 months, that's a sad day.
I think about how proud I am of him every day... and on the days where I need a little more encouragement, I remind myself how much I love him... and that will always be enough.

I love you handsome husband! Know Avery and I are here thinking and praying for you every day. Come home safe to us. You are the most amazing man in our lives. Your girls are so proud of you!!!

Snow White Christmas

YES, I know- I'm a little late!!! I have been so busy (intentionally). I have been busy with Avery during the day, and when she goes to sleep, I have been painting the house! It looks sooo pretty, and I will post pictures (yeah right, is what you are thinking, I know) With all that being said, tonight I am taking off from paintig to make some updates on this blog!!

Again, we were so lucky to have our handsome Daddy home this Christmas. One tradition we have decided to start is for our little family to wake up in our home Christmas morning... and hang out and play all day. So, this was the first year we did that! It was sooo wonderful to spend the day together, playing with all of Avery's new toys that Santa dropped off!!

I have every intention of catching up on this blog within the next few days! So here goes. The first update will be all the pictures from over Christmas with Daddy home :). We had some wonderful time as a "little family", but also enjoyed a day with some of our "big family". Avery is so blessed to have so many amazing people in her life (as are we). Those people, spoiled her rotten this Christmas! She LOVES all her goodies. Like I mentioned before, we are rearranging the downstairs so that I can move around the house without falling over toys :). It's amazing how much she plays with them all though, she doesn't take a break!

Home for the holidays!

YES!!!! WE HAD DADDY HOME FOR CHRISTMAS!!!!
Hey everyone, Sorry it has taken me so long to update this blog. I'm not really sure of who reads it... BUT, I am sorry if you do! :) It has been so hectic around here, as I'm sure you understand. We are past the first month mark in this deployment, and while I dislike how little I get to hear from him, time is moving pretty quickly. Some days quicker than others...
So, as many of you know- Ernest was able to come home for Christmas. This is a definite blessing for our family, and we did NOT take it for granted. I'm pretty sure Avery and I followed him around every where, like lost puppies. He didn't seem to mind though... we were taking in every second that we could!

BELIEVE IT OR NOT (sarcasm) Avery was spoiled and loved-on over Christmas! She has so many new toys... so many in fact, we are rearranging our house so that we will have enough space to put her new stuff, without having it all over the house! We are (I am) removing our formal living room, and creating a Play Place for our little toddler! She LOVES having all the toys in one room... and really knows it's HERS. One thing I am planning to do while Ernest is gone is finally decorate and get our house how we want it. And if any of you know me, you know I am a bargain shopper! SO, I will be finding the best deals possible, therefore, it will take this entire year to get it done! But it sure will be a fun task. And I am excited about my husband coming home to a cozy, organized home!
These pictures were taken at the airport when Avery and I went to get Daddy! His flight got in around 9:30 PM, so Avery slept on the way down there. Mean mommy woke her up... but I'm pretty sure seeing Daddy again made it all better. I had made a shirt for her to wear to surprise him, but once he walked up- and he grabbed her, she wouldn't let go long enough for him to see. It said "All I want for Christmas is Daddy" and had a cute army man on the front. Here are the pictures that we took at the airport.

So, don't mind me... a couple friends and I got spray tans before the guys got home... needless to say, I WON'T be doin that again!! It did NOT look right on me... Im PALE, We have a PALE little family... and that's ok with me.

Going Away Party

Hey family and friends! I am finally checking in for the first time since my handsome soldier left! Avery and I miss Daddy SOOO increcibly much, but like you will hear quite often- We are SOOO proud of him. We are doing well, and getting in the swing of things. We are used to him leaving for a month or so at a time- and because of this, we have taken over the household jobs... and started our daily routines with Avery and I. Cooking for 1.5 isn't the most fun... but I'm trying! I have always cooked too much for all 3 of us, now we are missing the main consumer of the meals! Ernest has made it safely to his training area, and I successfully changed the smoke detector in our bedroom with a vaulted cieling. Now, lets dicuss who is doing the dirty work- ME! :) I carried a smaller ladder up 2 flights of stairs from the basement to our room. Got it set up- and it's too short. SO, I carried it back down to the basement and carried the large ladder up 2 flights of stairs. The life of a military wife! I have had some wonderful friends do an awesome job at cheering me up. The greatest combination? A tub of Half Baked Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream, a ice cream tub coozie, and a huge spoon. Thank you Lisa Henson- You know how to comfort me! :) As far as Ernest goes, we have hardly been able to talk because he is so incredibly busy. The first few nights he had meetings until 11-12(their time) and had to get up at 4. He was exhausted, had the same cold as Avery and I... which isn't a good combination. But he says things are beginning end a little earlier... maybe 11... and he doesnt have to be up quite as early. He tries to call a couple times a day, but in general, it's only one phone call a day. I will continue to update everyone through this blog!! You can subscribe to it, so you will get updates as I send them.

So, I wanted to post some pictures from Ernest's Going Away Party that we had on November 13. I wanted to give all of our families a chance to love on him before he left. We really appreciate everyone who came out- and missed those who couldn't make it. Thanks so much for all the letters, I know it will help his spirits. He asked me to put them in a package to be shipped for him to read while he is away. This will be a great encouragement for him!

Before Ernest left, he and I went on our FIRST date night since having Avery. It was a great night, and gave us some wonderful quality time to chat... without our sweet baby climbing all over the place! We ate at Copelands (where we had our first date). It was SOOO yummy, we always leave stuffed. After dinner we went and walked around the mall... then headed home. Here are some of the pictures we took when we got back from dinner. It was an awesome night... just with he was home now!

I forgot!! Pumpkin Patch Pictures!!

We go to the same Pumpkin Patch every year, and LOVE IT! We go to Berry Patch Farms. While the pumpkins are rather pricey, we generally get a little one- so say we did- then head straight to walmart to get a larger and much cheaper pumpkin! Here are the pictures we took this year, and again- we were so thankful to have Daddy there with us!

The NEW Ride!

We have been looking into trading in the truck for a while now- especially since Ernest is about to leave. I wanted something that got a little better gas mileage... but wanted something big enough for a baby and baby gear. We dont need anything huge (YET) until we have multiple children- and as it may be obvious- that will not be happening for at least a couple of years since half of the equation will be in Iraq :) So... we test drove many cars. We loved the Navigators... but like I said, I wanted something with better gas mileage and I wanted something nig enough... but not huge. SOOOOOO... during Yelloy Ribbon weekend we decided to go by the Lincoln dealership down there and check out an MKX. We werent sure if it was TOO small- but I fell in love with it. I love everything about it! Here are some pictures:

HAPPY (LATE) HALLOWEEN!!!

I hope everyone is doing WONDERFUL- and we appologize for neglecting our poor blog lately. As many of you know, Ernest is leaving this month to start his deployment. While Avery and I are so sad to see him go, and will miss him terribly- we are both so proud of him and love him with our whole hearts. With that being said, we have been SUPER busy lately! It seems like every weekend we have plans after plans, after plans! Time is flying by way too fast, I sure hope this next year flies by just as quickly.

Now that I have finished defending why our blog is lacking in the update category- I have a couple of posts to share! First one is AVERY HAD HER FIRST TRICK OR TREATING HALLOWEEN!!! She LOVED it. We went to my friend Jenn's house, and hung out with some amazing families. We met a few new friends, and enjoyed spending time with our dear friends Kelly, Abe, their two girls and Jenn along with her precious family. Kelly is one of my closest friends- and I am so BLESSED and lucky to have her in my life. Her husband is deploying with Ernest, so she and I have exciting plans for girls beach trips and staying busy- along with our friend Rhonda and her two boys while our brave men are gone.

So, Avery was a witch... a PRECIOUS witch! Avery kind of decided this on her own; I bought her a $1 children's witch hat at Target oneday, and she wanted to wear it 24/7. No joke, she flipped out if we took it off her. SO... I decided- Witch it is! My sweet friend Kayce made Avery her halloween tutu as a birthday gift, and it was perfect. She is so talented! Here are some pictures from the first time Avery REALLY went Trick-or-Treating.

Hey All!
I know it has been a LONG time since we last updated our blog... it has been a super busy/hectic time around the Polk household. Soon after Avery's birthday, when we were visiting my sister and her two precious babies at my Dad and Step mom's house- Avery came down with a horrible fever. It went from 100.8 on Thursday morning- we went down to visit and stay the night- thinking it was teething. By about 3, her fever was 102.5. I of course freaked that Avery had a virus and was spreading it to Griffin and Ansley. BUT, through the night, Avery's fever kept getting worse and worse. It got up to 104 at it's highest. The Motrin helped for a few hours, but only brought it down to 102.5- and after 4 hours, it was way back up. Scared me to death, she was EXTREMELY fussy all night, threw up a few times... it was just NOT FUN. And you know, when you aren't in your own home, it's a little harder. SO, at 5 AM, Avery and I went to the basement so I could say goodbye to my dad (he was getting up to go fishing) because I was planning to pack up all our stuff and head towards the doctor's office so we could be there by 8 when they open. I knew this was a sickness she hadn't had before- and the first thing we all thought was an ear infection. She ended up going back to sleep- and I was NOT going to wake the sick baby. As soon as she woke up, we left, went to the pediatrician. As we expected, Avery had her FIRST ear infection EVER. Lucky us right?? WELL, this ear infection turned into a double ear infection WHILE she was on antibiotics. SO, we switched to a stronger antibiotic, while giving her the natural supplement our chiropractor suggested that would go along with the meds the doctor gave us... NO... neither of those helped. Finally, after 3 weeks of antibiotics and double ear infections- (still infected) they turned to the shot option- which they say works wonders. Hated giving her shots- but we had to get her ears well. After two rounds of the shots- (2 shots each time- over a 2 day period) they said her ears were looking better! YAY!!!! A few days later- she started poking her ears again. NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! Took her in to the pediatrician (where most of our money has gone lately) and luckily they aren't infected again- but there is fluid in them. Usually common after an infection... so as long as it's gone in 3 months- we're good!

During this entire process, Daddy was gone! No fun at all, and he hated being away from his super sick/sad baby girl. Needless to say- I AM EXHAUSTED!!! I literally started crying when I had to take her back to the doctor this past time- thinking it was going to start all over. Prayers and finers crossed!!!

So, it has been a busy time in the Polk household for sure!! Sorry about the constant delay of posts... I will one day get better!! On an extremely happy note- OUR BABY GIRL IS 1!!! She had a wonderful birthday party- with so many sweet guests. I always feel so bad, because it is hard to constantly talk to everyone... but I think everyone understood. Avery had a blast... and was soo blessed to recieve so many wonderful gifts!! (with no duplicates!!) Here are some of the pictures from the party!

Ernest's 30th SURPRISE Birthday Party

Since Ernest was turning the big 3-0, I wanted to surprise him with a dinner to celebrate with some friends around here. The Birthday plans changed quite often up until the day of! Originally, I wanted to send Ernest and his guy friends golfing and fishing. My dad gave the idea for us to all go to Callaway Gardens- an idea which I loved! So I tried to secretively get everything together for us all to go there!... since this is a busy time of year, no one could go. I really wanted him to go golfing since he never gets to... So our friend Sam suggested they use his passes to just go one weekday. (Ernest isn't an avid golfer, but enjoys it whem he gets a chancw). Needless to say, I love this idea... but wanted to do something to "surprise him". The plan then changed to going to eat at one of our favorite places- California Dreaming! Ernest sometimes stops by there on his way home from work and grabs us salads... PERFECT!! We would be there waiting to say "SURPRISE!!!!"
That WOULD of worked perectly... until Sam told me they were all getting off early on Friday. UGH! The oh so wavering plan then changed to he and I "going to get salads I've been really craving lately" and everyone else would be there. Since they were getting off early, he and I could go after he got home, changed clothes and headed out to dinner. BUT THEN, on Friday, Ernest wasn't acting like he was getting off early because of a meeting. I then knew if he left at 4:30-5, he wouldn't have enough time to get home and change clothes... I'd have to meet him there. So I changed the plan again to "we are meeting your sister and Gertjan (her hubby) and Jonathan (their baby boy) to get some more veggies and jami So we had to be there at 6:30". So we had to meet at babies R us so I could "get something for Avery" while he changed clothes in the car... to waste time until everyone got there. I walked all over that store talking to Rhonda on the phone to find out when everyone had arrived. We went the long way... and when we walked through the door, all the hostesses were walking around... so it wasn't a big SURPRISE factor because he saw everyone when we walked in the door. But all-in-all it was a fun dinner, and he was surprised! :)

I just realized that I havent posted about Mother's Day... and was coming to post about Father's Day! So I will do them together.

Mother's Day started with getting to sleep in!! YAY... Momma sleeping in is RARE!! Then when I woke up, we went to eat IHOP.... the Nutella Crepes are one of my favorite treats!

After eating yummy breakfast we went to get FLOWERS for the yard!! That is a HAPPY Mother's Day thing!! Here we are picking out the flowers...

And here is a baby who is TIRED of shopping!!

This is a happier baby when we got home and started planting our new flowers! Avery enjoyed the outside!!

I had an amazing day with my family. I am sooooo incedibly lucky to have this amazing baby in my life. You want to question God's ability and awesomeness? Just watch a precious child grow and change daily. HE is amazingly perfect!!

Ernest celebrated his first FATHER'S DAY with our precious girl!!! He got to sleep in (which we let him do on his days off anyways since he works so hard during the week) then when he woke up we gave him his first prize from Avery! After that, we went to eat at Outback! YUMM YUMM.

Hey everyone! So, it has been so hectic around here, and I have no idea what we've been doing!! I guess just staying busy, enjoying the wonderful weather when it's out! Ive also been "summer cleaning" when I get a few spare minutes!
Avery is getting to be such a big girl... and always doing different, new things!!
She says:

She is such a precious joy in our lives. She gives the best hugs (always has) and best kisses. Now, when you say "give me a kiss" she turns and gives you bog kisses!!

She has 5 teeth... almost 6.

Most of all, she is starting to walk! It's still on the wabbly stage, but she is definitely taking steps. So far she does about 5 steps on a good try. Sometimes it's more... she'll walk away from something, stop and catch her balance then continue one. In that case she can do pretty far, but most of the time she gets in a hurry. Once she figures it out, I'll be in trouble! She will be running!! We are going to use our new video recorder that Ernest's sister Marie gave him for his Birthday- and I will post it!!

Avery has become our little fishy! She LOVES going to the pool!! We have a few friends with neighborhood pools (which is nice since our never got built! grrr) So we are al the pool weekly. Here are some pictures from our last pool excersions!

Aviation Formal 2010!

This year, the Aviation Formal fell on the weekend with "Strong Bonds" at Stone Mountain. I was actually pretty excited about the weekend. I was told its a great tool to help families learn techniques and gain knowledge beneficial for when our soldiers deploy. It was actually great to get to spend time with Ernest, that's for sure!
My mom came along to keep Avery while we were in classes. We got there on Friday around 11, and hung out until the classes started at 1. So my mom kept Avery from 1 until 3:30. The look on Avery's face when we got back melted my heart. She is used to being away from Daddy, but Momma... I think its been 2 hours for the longest time- until this weekend! So this was the schedule, and luckily everything was in the same hotel (which was amazing)
Friday:
Arrived and got settled 11-1 (Kept Avee with us)
Classes 1-3:30 (Avery was with Gammie)
My mom left after our classes ended and Ernest Avery and I all hung out in the room until dinner started at about 6:30.
Saturday:
My mom got there at 8:15 or so and Ernest and I went to breakfast. I ran back to the room to try and feed Avery before the long day of classes... but she was busy playing.
classes were from 9-12, 1-3:30. My mom decided to take Avery to visit my Aunt Pam and Uncle Gary to pass time... they got back at about 4:30. Needless to say Avery was ready for some Momma time.
BUT, then we had to go to the Aviation Ball at 6. Again, my mom was with Avery. At about 8 I wanted to go check on her... my mom opens the door and says "oh my goodness, thank goodness! She's been freaking out for 45 mins". My mom didnt want to interrupt the Ball... but Avery was flipping out! She was doing the hyperventilating breating to catch her breath from crying so hard. Needless to say, I decided to stay in the room, Ernest came back- and we called it a night and was asleep by 10. yes, we are boring now!

Avery is still mostly nursing, so that is where the separation issue comes from! She has always hated bottles... but will take a sippy cup. BUT, after being away from Momma all day... nothing except mommy comfort would suffice!
It was a wonderful weekend... and REALLY appreciate my mom coming to help!! She was a lifesaver.
We only took pictures of the formal- and the pictures were after we got back for the night. Here are some of the ones we took!!

This past month has been a busy time for weddings! One of Ernest's guys in his unit got married... well actually, Ernest is commander of both the bride and the groom. It was a beautiful wedding and we had a lot of fun. Avee was pooped during the reception... and before her meltdown from exhaustion (when we ended up leaving) she passed out listening to "elevator music" Needless to say, we need that CD!

And this past week, our friend Rob had his recpetion for their destination wedding.

By the time Avery is down for the night, I am exhausted and want to follow right behind her. Tonight, while I am so sleepy- Avery is asleep... SOOOO I am going to do a few update posts.

First, we all got to go visit Nana and Papa Jim at their AMAZING new lake house. We absolutely loved the house, and loved the visit!! It is always wonderful to see them, and for them to spend some time with Bug. She grows so fast, and changes so much- each time we see them, she is doing another new trick!! Since over a week ago when Avery started crawling... she has't stopped! :) She's gotten faster and faster... and REALLY doesn't like sitting (even more so than before). Now she is pulling up on everything. Im so proud of her... but this growing up thing is NOT ok with her Dada and I! Every year, Ernest has to go to Savannah for the flight simulator. Usually we plan it close to our anniversary for a little trip, but this year we were a little early. This year we had Avery! With that being said, we were probably a little "boring"... but it's worth it! :)
We usually stay at The Inn at Ellis Square and LOVE it there. Since this year's trip was more of a last minute thing, the Mariott prices were better... so we stayed there. WE WERE SO UNIMPRESSED!!
Internet was $25 a day
Parking was $18 a day
They did NOT have complementary breakfast; and a "regular" breakfast was $18! WHAT????
Needless to say we left that hotel vowing to NEVER stay there again!!

Chiropractor

So wanted to do a little updating since Daddy his home and can hang out with that QUICK baby girl.

First post will be about the Chiropractor!! When I was pregnant with Avery, the chiropractor was my lifeline! I was in so much pain from... just my entire body changing- as any of you other mommies know! So I went weekly to get adjusted and it helped so incredibly much! They were also an amazing group of women who were a great support to my going natural at birth. They both offered to meet us at the hospital to be some-what of a "doula" for the birth, no matter the time. In the end, I ended up not wanting extra people in the room, but in the months leading to the delivery they told Ernest and I all that we should expect in a natural delivery- provided that everything went as planned.
After having Avery I continued to go, and Avee started getting adjusted as well! The Chiropractor we go to is The Wellpath Center which is a family practice. They specialize in pregnancy, babies, children, adults AND seniors. Well, Avee loves Dr. Heather... and I wanted pictures for her scrapbook; here are the pictures we took.

FINALLY... an UPDATE

Things have been so busy around here... and I cant really tell you why... I guess just staying busy with this little one, and Ernest working so much. Thinking back, we havent had a lot of events or overall plans... but we've been busy! :)
So this is a big update about whats been going on in the past... MONTH!

Our first exciting news is that Avery is ON THE MOVE! She's still in slow motion, but definitely trying to get all over the place! Here is a video I took this morning... We woke up not too long before so her hair isnt fixed haha. :)

On a slightly different note, last night was a pretty traumatic experience in the Polk Household! Yesterday morning, Avery woke up with a fever of 102.7. Throughout the day we gave her Motrin, which helped. But last night after we all went to bed she was scalding hot. We gave her more Motrin and took her temperature and it was 103.7- WOW!!!! We ended up taking her to Scotish Rite Children's Hospital where they checked for a UTI and ear infection- both came back negative. So they determined more than likely its a virus that will just have to run its course.So far today she seems a little cooler... and hopefully it stays that way. Poor Daddy has drill today, so we got home at 4:30- then he had to turn right around and head to work. We sure do love him!!!

So I am a little behing... imagine that! But just wanted to tell everyone about our Valentine's Day this year! It was so much fun. The day before we all went to one of my favorite stores... Harry's Farmer's Market!! I went to to the restroom and when I came back... my sweet baby was sound asleep... like this...

On the 14th, my sweet husband cooked me dinner. We had Ribeye steaks on the grill, scallops wraped in bacon and asparagus with mushrooms. It was sooo yummy! I also got beautiful flowers, candies and bath goodies from Ernest and Avery. The card was so wonderful... simple but made me smile:

Georgia Blizzard FOR REAL!

I'm sorry its taken so long to post an update, but its been pretty busy around here! And when we arent busy we are trying to get some rest or clean! :) We are loving every second with this precious angel of ours... and time is just going by so fast. She amazes me every day. She's loving reading now... finally! Today when we were reading, at the end of every book after I shut it, she would scream for another one... I'd grab abother book and start reading and she would stop. haha

Anyways, we recently got a ton of snow around here... and while Avery had her first snow not too long ago, this time it was enough to really see and touch. She really enjoyed feeling how cold it was. This precious outfit was given to her by my dad and stepmom (her Nana and Papa Jim) and I hate to say it... but she's definitely an adorable baby. Ok, I don't hate to say it... but I definitely think it!

Happy Half Birthday Avery!!

This is a letter I wrote Avery for her first year scrapbook. I can't believe she is getting so big.

Dearest Avery,

Today my sweet Angel you are 6 months old and I can not even believe how fast the time has flown by. It feels like last week we found out you were growing in my tummy, and yesterday you were born. The past 6 months have been the most incredible months of our lives. There is not one day that goes by that I don’t thank God that he gave you to us. You are such a beautiful baby and we are so excited to see how you change and grow over the next 6 months.

As of now:

You change every day, and when we think you have so much personality- you only gain more the following day. You are the most snuggly and “lovey” baby we have ever seen! You want kisses, kisses, kisses, all the time. Originally we thought you were “hungry” when you came after our faces like you do- but we soon figured out that you were just giving us kisses. And when I say you come after us for kisses… you come after us with huge open mouth kisses!

You can roll over from your back to your stomach, and then from your stomach to your back. Keeping you in one spot is getting more difficult every day. You can hold yourself up on your hands and knees, but have yet to move anywhere farther than turning in circles. From what we hear, you are VERY advanced and ahead on all these tricks. The thing that made me realize how fast you are growing is when you learned to sit on your own. You LOVE to sit up, and be carried all over so you can see what’s going on. You don’t like sitting in one spot for a long time, which is something you get from your mommy! Your newest thing is when you “Growl” (GRRRRRRRR) or more like (AHHHHHH) with a growling tone You will go back and forth in a growling conversation with Mommy and Daddy. You and daddy also do a silly thing where you stick your tongue out and blow, making spit go everywhere. While Daddy doesn’t make spit come out, you have it all over the place! Your favorite toy is your exersaucer or “exerciser” as I call it. You love bouncing up and down in it and pushing the buttons to make the music turn on.

You are already wearing 9-12 month clothes- You get it honestly though- You have a very tall daddy, as well as a very tall mommy. As far as sleeping goes, you have recently started wanting to sleep with Mommy and Daddy again. We seem to think that since your teeth are so close to coming in, you just want a little more snuggle time since you love closeness so much. We don’t mind it one bit though; plus, Daddy and I have slept better with you in the bed next to us because you sleep so much better! Before moving to our bed you would wake up every hour, MAYBE 2 hours just so we would pick you up and hold you. Now, since you are right there and can smell us next to you, many nights you sleep 5-7 hours straight. It seems like you have a magnet inside your sweet body that is attracted to me though, because every time I wake up you have moved right up next to me. I love when you fall asleep with your hand on my face in the bed at night… you are just too precious.

While you still mostly nurse, you have started eating baby food once a day- generally for lunch. Your favorite is bananas, but so far don’t seem too picky- like your daddy!

You LOVE Cleo and Sheba, and they are starting to realize you will pet them. Sheba lately has loved coming to lie near you, so that you will rub her head. Cleo has always been your protector though. Any time someone other than Mommy and Daddy holds you and you start to cry, Cleo runs up and looks at them like “What are you doing to my baby?- I’m watching you!” You definitely growl at them for attention, and get louder and louder until they acknowledge you are in the room.

While you talk a lot like your mommy, your facial expressions are just like your daddy. You are always thinking- which is a Daddy trait! Everyone says you are starting to look more like him. I have to admit, I enjoyed looking at you and seeing me as a baby, BUT I also love looking at you now and seeing your daddy. You are so beautiful and have the most beautiful blue eyes that I just can’t get enough of.

Most of all we are just so in love with you. Thank you for allowing us to be your mommy and daddy. We promise to always make you feel loved and safe. Thank you for making it so easy for us to love you. The love a mommy and daddy have for their child is a love like no other. Six months ago today I was holding in my arms the most beautiful token of God’s unending love and faithfulness for the first time. .. We are so blessed and thankful to have such a precious baby girl in our lives.

ITS OFFICIAL: For about a week now, Avee has become a "SITTER"! Our sweet baby can now sit all by herself. This is so wonderful, while at the same time bittersweet for her mommy. It feels like a few days ago this beautiful Angel in my life was born.

WHEATHER ALERT: Today in Georgia... yes GEORGIA... there was snow!! and it wasn't only 5 or 6 snow flakes... it was a Georgia blizzard! :)
Avery I know loved it... cause she loves cold weather! Here are the pictures we took today. We had to wait for daddy to be home to take pictures, and it was dark- like always. So I apologize for the dark pictures! I promise there is snow in them though.

We have started Avery on cereal, oatmeal and fruit! She LOVES it!! We are only doing one meal a day, usually at night before her last feeding while she goes to sleep. We are going to continue nursing, except for the one meal- until the doctor says to go to 3 meals a day, while nursing in between. Avery LOVES cereal and oatmeal with bananas and apples. Im sure she will love all the other fruit too, but those are the only two we've tried so far. in between bites she reaches and leans towards the bowl and spoon... she's addicted! The first night we gave her plain cereal... and that night she was up screaming like she does when her tummy hurts with gas... the next night we mixed it with bananas- and she did great. Come to find out... I looked on the side of the box and there is SOY in the Rice Cereal... and SOY makes her tummy hurt sooo bad! If I ever have anything with SOY, her stomach gets so upset. So when mixed with a good bit of fruit... she seems to do better. But as a whole, we are sticking to the Whole Wheat Oatmeal- that does NOT have soy. 2010 is here!!! 2009 was an amazing year in our lives. Mainly of course because our precious angel was born. It is so amazing how much your life changes when you have a baby in your life. We could not be happier with our lives right now... and really pray 2010 will be just as wonderful! Its planning to be a big year for the Polk family. This is the year Ernest will be deploying for 13 months. My prayers for 2010 involve keeping him safe, keeping Avery and I safe while he is away, that we stay healthy and busy while we're apart- making the time go by faster, and that my mom and stepdad have a better year in 2010 since the economy in 2009 and a concrete company didn't mix well.

Until he is home again, I dont think a year can top 2009 for us... But we are SO proud of him and I know we have loved ones watching over the 3 of us- keeping us safe.

New Years Eve was also "low key". We went to our friends Mike and Helen's house until about 10 or so, then headed home for the night. I enjoyed snuggling on the couch this year for the countdown. Celebrating is fun, but I'm pretty sure I am going to soak in all the snuggling I can get this year!! :)

24th Birthday!

The time has come, and I am one year older. This year, having a baby along made the celebration a little more "low key" than other birthdays. We opted to go to dinner with some friends and could not of had more fun! We sure do have some amazing buddies in our lives- and having them there to celebrate was wonderful! We have our normal group of friends that are 99% of the time at all the gatherings... which makes you really grateful for those people- always there for you to count on! We went to California Dreaming (one of my favorites). Since it was my birthday- I got a free meal! AND... I was able to choose any meal on the entire menu... so why get 1 rack of ribs when they have a 2 rack meal?! I mean come on... I needed to get my free meal's worth! SO, for the night I was on the Adkins Diet... and ate almost the entire 2 racks of ribs... and chose to leave my pashed potatoes! Mmmmmmm Mmmmmm... they were yummy! Come on now- I have a baby to feed... she takes about 500 of my daily calories- THEREFORE, eating 2 racks of ribs is only helping- not hurting! I need my fill too! :) Ok, I'm done defending myself for the ribs... here are the pictures from the night. So much fun- and thanks to all my sweet friends that could make it!

So this year we stayed at a hotel since we have no idea when Avery will have a "good" or "bad" night. we didnt want to wake everyone up all night. We were first going to stay where Ernest's sister was staying.... but when we got therem got our key, saw who was across the hall (drunk old druggies) we quickly turned around and went to the next exit to a MUCH better Hampton Inn. ehhh- that first hotel was NASTY...how a "non smoking" hotel smells like a smoke stack... guess someone wasnt following the rules!! Thank you Lord for clean hotels!!

Christmas Day!

One thing we have decided is that now with a baby- we want to stay at home, or close to home on Christmas Day. Especially when Avery is old enough to really enjoy the Holiday- we have chosen to not spend it traveling. Since my mom lives so close (6 miles away) we spent the afternoon there. We of course enjoyed the day, and all of us got great gifts! These pictures were taken with the awesome camera Ernest got me for my Chrisrmas/Birthday. Its an Olympus E620. We have wanted a real nice camera to have now that Avery is here- one to take wonderful pictures as she grows... and Ernest surprised me with an amazing one this year!

Our next Christmas Celebration was on December 20- At Ms. Jackie's (Ernest's stepmother's mom.) We always enjoy seeing everyone there, we just hate we generally only see then at Christmas. Once again- Avery scored some great things!!! We didn't take many pictures here for some reason, but hopefully someone who did will send some our way!!!

This was Avery's FIRST Christmas... and we took pictures of EVERYTHING!! :) We are enjoying having Daddy home this year because they are planning to be deployed next year. We sure did enjoy having him here though!!

First Christmas was at my dad and Stepmom's house. This was on December 13- which luckily worked out so my sister and her family could make it. We were also very lucky that Ernest was able to get out of a course he thought he was going to. Avery racked up on awesome gifts and a ton of precious clothes!! Today was a HUGE day in the life of Miss Avery Polk! First, we went to see Santa for the first time! Avery did so perfect! There were several pictures that turned out really cute, but the one we ended up getting was priceless!!

So in this same day we hit another milestone!! Avery has learned to roll over! She is quite good at it too! All of a sudden she just started rolling over and has done it over and over and over again... she's on a ROLL... get it?!.... "a roll"... cause she's rolling... I know you get it!
Anyways, I video taped one of the many successful rolls.

Teething/Giggling

Well, the time has come. For a few weeks now- Avery has been "teething"... or at least "pre-teething". Poor precious baby has some sore yums, she drools like a faucet, chews on EVERYTHING, gags herself from sticking her finger too far in her mouth trying to bite her finger off. She was doing SOOO well with sleeping at night, but that has changed slightly. Overall she does well- but we can definitely see a difference. She wakes up hurting- and wants to be snuggled, which is really ok with me!

Yesterday she started giggling! Before yesterday, she would make a little noise when she was happy, and would do one little one noise laugh... but now she giggles! She did it twice yesterday, and once today... so we will perfect it in no time! Laughing and giggling is our favorite... so we will do it a lot!

We had a very low key Halloween this year! We decided to go see Ernest sister and her husband and be at home that night. Since we live in a new neighbohood, we didnt have any trick-or-treaters... Pumpkin Patch 2009

Today we went to the pumpkin patch in Woodstock. We wanted this to be a fun tradition we do each year. Granted Avery is only 3 months... but since Ernest will be gone this time next year being our HERO, we wanted to start the tradition with him here of course. It was a blast- but freezing! We had Avery bundled up pretty well, but with the wind- her cute outfit wasnt seen because we wrapped her in a blanket to keep her ears warm! We found Avery's first pumpkin and it is too cute. Tiny!

2 Month Shots

Well, the time has come and gone for Avery's 2 month shots! AHHH... time is flying by for sure. She is almost 3 months, but the shots were pushed back because our pediatrician was out of town right when Avery reached her 2 month mark.
So of course I was torn up knowing I was going to put her in pain... but in the long run- it is for her own good. I was beyond sick about it though! We went Thursday, Ernest met us at the doctor, and planned to go ahead and get all the vaccines needed at this point. We have decided that starting with the 4 month shots we may split them up instead of all at once. But from talking to friends and the doctors, the first set of vaccines arent as "intense". So we get there, and Avery weighs 13.8lbs, 25in long and overall in the 97% range. We all know that between Ernest and I- she has a good chance of being tall!
Then it was vaccine time. First they gave her the oral Rotatec- which made her choke. She lost her breathe for what seemed like a long time- long enough that after she caught her breathe again, the nurse wanted to get the doctor before beginning the shots. All of a sudden Avery fell asleep when I was holding her- and it seemed like a very awkward time to fall asleep so suddenly. Needless to say it was scary! I was in the corner crying while the doctor was holding her trying to figure out what the deal was! After this fiasco- we decided to only give her one shot, and went back this morning to give her the other two. We are so glad we did. With the shots Avery did so wonderful. With the first shot she cried for about 10 seconds, and the second time we went for the final two shots she barely made a peep! What a big girl we have!! So proud of her!

So since it is rare that I can actually get on and type whats been going on- Now that Avery is asleep... I need to post it all!! So there are several new posts...
This one is informing everyone that my little Bug is getting to be too big! She has transferred from our bed co-sleeping to her bassinett!! Oh man... :) She did great with the transition! The first night she slept 6 hours, woke up and ate- then slept 5 more hours! WOAH!! That has yet to happen again- in general it's 6 hours, 4 hours, 1 hour- waking up at 9 am like clockwork!

Here are the pictures of our big girl in her bassinett the first few nights! I am very surprised that she doesnt have both her arms up above her... in general that's how she sleeps... she stretches back... and lets her hands just fall... so funny! Guess she was just too pooped after I put her in there to get a good stretch before falling into deep sleep!!

Allergies

SOOOO... we have recently overcome our first sick baby days!! Poor Avery has The Bishop Allergies like her mommy!! I get them every season change... and poor Avery had her first case recently. She has now overcome all the sneezing... yet is still a little stuffy!! I was a paranoid mommy for sure... taking her temperature constantly to make sure it was nothing more than allergies.
Soon after Avery and I both got over our allergies, Ernest got a nasty cold... he NEVER gets sick. He has been sick one time since I have known him... no joke! Got to love a good immune system! When I walked in the house after Avery and I went to get him medicine for him and felt the house was burning up, and he was FEEZING in sweat shirt with the hood on, and sweat pants- I knew Avery and I had to leave that Germ Infested Sauna!! So we decided to go hang out with my mom and let him sleep and get better.
Happy to report however, OUR HOUSE IS SICK FREE!!! Phew... We made it!!

SO, Little Miss Avee Bug is officially 2 months old. Each month to me, the proud mommy, is a huge deal! We enjoyed the day by Avery sleeping... then we all went for a walk. I pushed Avery in the stroller, while Ernest battled both the dogs on leases! I definitely had the easier end of the set-up. It is amazing how much she has already changed over these two months. Hearing her laugh makes me smile so big! The fact that she smile when we talk to her, or even walk in a room- instead of only when she passes gas- makes my heart so happy. She is also mimicing us when we stick out our tongue. She is such a big girl already!
So here is a sweet picture from her big 2 month birthday stroll! We put her in the stroller without the carseat since it was warm outside... though it felt so much better with the breeze... but she looks so big in the stroller without the carseat. She LOVED it!! Giggling and talking the entire time. Once again- Im so in love!!

Avee's First Playdate!

Avery and I spent last Wednesday with my sweet friend Hannah and her baby boy Grant. Baby Grant is an older man... He's 7 months old. First we all went to publix, where it was quite the sight- Avery was in her carseat in the back of the grocery cart, and Grant was in his carseat ridin shot-gun at the top... I really wish we had gotten a picture! So after getting sandwiches from Publix, we headed to the park where we ate lunch- Hannah, Grant and I... WHile Avery slept:) After eating, then feeding Avee Bug when she woke up STARVING like always:)... we walked around the park trails pushing the sleepin babes in their strollers. It was so much fun. After the park we all headed to Hannah's house and sat around, played, fed the kiddos and changed diapers :) The story of a mommy's life! It really was a lot of fun, and we have decided it will be a weekly date. So maybe this next week we will get a picture of the "co-shoppers" in their grocery cart! Here are some pictures I took with my phone... and Hannah is sending me the pictures she took with her camera, so check back- more will be posted tonight/tomorrow! I was planning to take my camera- but when I walked downstairs to get it off the couch, it was in about 20 pieces because Ernest was trying to fix it... yet it was beyond fixable... so we are having to buy a new one- thank goodness my phone takes pretty decent pictures in the mean time.

So we have started doing some Tummy Time with Avery Bug. She seems to like it- she just bobs her head all over and wiggles a lot!! She is too precious. I cant believe she is getting so big. These are pictures from her first Tummy Time experience!!
So on her "Tummy Time" blanket she wiggles all over and loves it...

But if she is on our lap... she zonks out! This was when my Mom, Avery's Marmi, went to the hair salon to help with Avery while I finally got my hair done! My Life-Saver... and Avee Bug thanks her cause my hair was lookin rough! :)

Atlanta Flood

Well, we were lucky during the flood to have no damage, thanks to the fact that we live on a giant hill. We have several friends/families near us who weren't so lucky. We hate that so much damage was done to the homes near us. The road to get to our house is closed... and thankfully the road to get to our house the opposite way has a new bridge that was compelted about 6 months ago- the old bridge, which is still there under the new one, was completely under water. Thankfully Ernest had the day off, but he had to go to the small drug store near by to get Avery's Reflux medicine refilled... a normally 15 min drive took well over an hour one way.

Here are some pictures of our front yard. Ernest had to do MILITARY flood response work at his own home! To avoid our transformer being washed away, he had to go out and move rock bags from the sewer... against the rules we know- but we were not going to loose our house transformer! Anyways, notice his military rain coat :) My soldier!

These were pictures I saw on Facebook that were taken of a golfcourse/neighborhood down the street from our neighborhood.
